EarLuminator, a local independent moviemaker group, and Chattamovies, a group of moviemakers in the Chattanooga area, will be hosting the Best Of Open Screen Night 2012 at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, at The Carmike Majestic 12 Theatre in downtown Chattanooga. About three hours of independently-produced shorts submitted by local and regional movie makers will be screened at the event, including works by Chattanooga area movie makers.
Jim Smith, an EarLuminator producer, Chattamovies.com webmaster, and one of the OSN event organizers, says he thinks of Open Screen Night as an “open mic night” for indie movie makers. “We don't judge them first; if you send me your work, we screen it, and we have screened some excellent works in Atlanta and in Chattanooga.”
This is the second year that the Best Of Open Screen Night will be held in Chattanooga. Three times in 2012, shorts were screened at the Heritage House in Chattanooga and the Blank Stage Theater in Marietta, Ga. The ones voted as Audience Favorites at the Open Screen Nights will be screened at The Best Of screening.
Mr. Smith adds, “The support from the people in Chattanooga for local movie makers has been very encouraging. I am very excited that the Best of Open Screen Night is held in my hometown of Chattanooga. There are a lot of aspiring artist in the community, and there is no better way to support the local indie artist than to watch their works being screened.”
