The Notre Dame girls volleyball team cruised to a three game quarterfinal win Tuesday night as the District 7-AA volleyball tournament got underway.
Notre Dame beat Sequatchie County 25-11, 25-10, 25-10 led by Matte Strozak's six aces and 15 assists and by Ellen Sawyers' seven kills. Sawyer, one of two seniors also had two assists and two aces. Fellow senior Kylie Gange finished with three digs and one ace. Mallory Hein also had five kills, four aces and two digs.
The Lady Irish advance to play CCS in the semifinals Wednesday at 4:30.
The two rivals played twice this season and both games went to five games with Notre Dame winning the first match up and CCS winning the second. Notre Dame's only other district loss is to Signal Mountain who is the top seed and will play in the other semifinal game at 6 p.m. The Championship game will be played following that game on Wednesday.
Second year head coach Tyler Baldonado was pleased with how her team played on Tuesday.
"Today was about building that confidance for tomorrow's game with CCS," Baldonado said. "I told them not to worry too much about missed serves but to just be aggressive. I am confident we will play well tomorrow."
Only the top two teams will advance to region play next week.
